Trojan War Gods
During the Trojan War, the gods divided into factions, with Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, and Artemis siding with the Trojans, and Hera, Athena, Poseidon, and Hermes supporting the Greeks. Zeus remained mostly neutral, while other gods like Hades, Demeter, and Hestia took little to no part in the conflict.
Gods supporting the Trojans:
Aphrodite
: Goddess of love and beauty, who favored Paris.
Apollo
: God of light, music, and plague, who favored Hector.
Ares
: God of war, who sided with Aphrodite.
Artemis
: Goddess of the hunt and sister to Apollo, who also sided with the Trojans.
Gods supporting the Greeks:
Hera
: Queen of the gods, wife and sister of Zeus.
Athena
: Goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare.
Poseidon
: God of the sea and brother of Zeus.
Hermes
: Messenger of the gods.
Hephaestus
: God of craftsmen, who often forged weapons and armor for the Greeks.
Neutral or detached gods:
Zeus
: King of the gods, who maintained a mostly neutral stance.
Hades
: God of the underworld, who largely stayed out of the war.
Demeter
: Goddess of grain, who did not get involved.
Hestia
: Goddess of hearth and home, who was not active in the war.

• Aphrodite favored the Trojans, defended
Paris.
• Apollo favored the Trojans, plagued the
Greek camp.
• Ares favored the Trojans, emboldened
Trojan warriors on the battlefield.
• Artemis favored the Trojans, emboldened
Trojan warriors on the battlefield.
• Scamander, the river god who was insulted
by Achilles, and tried to kill the hero for
throwing dead bodies in his river.
• Athena favored the Greeks, provided aid
on the battlefield.
• Hephaestus favored the Greeks., and
mostly forged various weapons and armor
for Greek heroes, Achilles in particular.
• Hera favored the Greeks, provided aid on
the battlefield.
• Hermes favored the Greeks, provided aid
on the battlefield.

• Poseidon favored the Greeks, provided aid
on the battlefield.
• Zeus uncommitted until informed by the
Fates that Troy would fall. When he learned
this, he forbade the gods from taking part in
delaying that fate.
