Chrysaor (Person)
Chrysaor (Person)
Chrysaor is a giant and warrior who is sometimes depicted as a winged boar.
Parents and Birth: He and his twin brother, the winged horse Pegasus, were born from the body of the Gorgon Medusa after the hero Perseus decapitated her. Chrysaor's father was Poseidon, who had consorted with Medusa.
Meaning of his name: His name, "Khrysáor" in Greek, means "he who has a golden sword". In some depictions, this refers to his weapon, while others suggest it refers to golden tusks, if shown as a boar, or even golden blades of wheat.
Wife and children: Chrysaor married the Oceanid (a sea nymph) Callirrhoe. They were the parents of the three-headed giant Geryon, who was later slain by Heracles. Some traditions also name them as the parents of the monster Echidna.
Role in mythology: He is considered a minor figure in Greek mythology and appears mainly in the lineage of more famous figures like Medusa, Pegasus, and Geryon. There are few stories about his own adventures.
