Scamander / Xanthus (River)
The most prominent river of the Trojan plain, it flowed from Mount Ida and past the city of Troy into the Hellespont.
During the war, its divine personification fought the hero Achilles after the river became clogged with Trojan corpses.
According to Homer, the Scamander was called Xanthus by the gods.
