Aztec Origins 

Aztlán (from Nahuatl languages: Aztlán, Nahuatl pronunciation: [ˈast͡ɬãːn̥] ⓘ) is the ancestral home of the Aztec peoples. The word "Aztec" was derived from the Nahuatl aztecah, meaning "people from Aztlán."  

 

The meaning of the name Aztlán is uncertain. One suggested meaning is "place of Herons" or "place of egrets"  but via Nahuatl morphology the "place of egrets" is Aztatlan.

proposed derivations include "place of whiteness" and "at the place in the vicinity of tools", sharing the āz- element of words such as teponāztli, "drum" (from tepontli, "log").

The  Atlans (Atzlan) Mountians are in Mauritania.  

According to their origin myth, the Mexica left Aztlan at the behest of their god/ruler Huitzilopochtli, to find a new home in the Valley of Mexico.

Ancestral home: According to legend, the Aztecs (or Mexica) originated in a paradise-like place called Aztlán, often described as an island or lake with abundant resources.  The great migration: Their god Huitzilopochtli commanded them to leave Aztlán and embark on a long journey that would eventually lead them to establish their capital, Tenochtitlán, in the Valley of Mexico.

The Mexica called themselves Mexica or Culhua-Mexica, and the name "Tenochca" was used for the inhabitants of Tenochtitlan, derived from their legendary ancestor Tenoch. 

They migrated to the Valley of Mexico around 1200 AD, eventually founding Tenochtitlan after seeing a prophesied sign of an eagle on a cactus.

The Mexica came to dominate the region through the Triple Alliance, a political and military coalition with the city-states of Texcoco and Tlacopan.

Titlan

As a locative suffix: It is added to nouns to specify a location. 
Example: In Atitlán, "atl" means water and "titlan" means between, creating the meaning "between the waters". In Tepatitlan, "tepa" means stone and "titlan" means place. 
As a messenger: In Pipil, a related language, "titlan" can mean "messenger".
